Some beer tastes like pumpkin pie- its got too much nutmeg and all spice in it. Some beer tastes like canned pumpkin got added somewhere along they way and it has a bunch of sludge in the bottle. Now don’t get me wrong- I like unfiltered beers- but I dislike bottle sludge. So imagine all the ways a pumpkin ale can go wrong.
Now forget about it. Because Jacques au Lantern has none of those problems. The pumpkin flavoring isn’t so bold or strong that it makes the beer skunky. And the spices aren’t so potent that you think you are drinking a pumpkin pie. I like my ambers to be a bit more bright so the color was a near miss for me on this one- but who the heck cares? The beer isn’t in the glass to look pretty!
I already told my husband we’ll have to snag this one again in a month or so when we dive into our fall beer selections.
