Bullets and Belles Skill Descriptions

Bullets and Belles is a Live Action Role Playing event. As such, we are aiming to keep the rule system as simple as possible while still allowing players the freedom to create the characters that they want to play. Players are free to allocate their character points as they choose to create their character. Its a very stripped down creation process from tabletop versions of Deadlands.

Characters in Bullets and Belles have only 9 different skills to select from:Money Makin’, Spell Slingin’, Law Breakin’, Fightin, Inventin’, Takin’ a Beatin’,Church Goin’, Sweet Talkin’, Governin’

Money Makin’Does your character have money? A way to make money? Spell Slingin’Does your character dabble in the occult? Practice Native American mysticism? Channel ookie powers from mysterious spirits? Have a stash of magical relics or potions? To have any magical powers, items, or spells- you need to purchase some magic. A little bit of magic means your character might have some minor talents wherein a high magical aptitude might make you capable of summoning an Ancient One single-handedly!00Magic? Law Breakin’Some folks make laws- dont drink, dont gamble, dont steal, dont smuggle. Your character is really good at breaking these laws. If you want to willfully cause trouble for the lawmen sort- buy this skill. The higher the skill- the more likely you are to get a big payout or get away with your heist.00I’m not a criminal. Go away.

Fightin’Does your character know how to handle themselves in a fist or gunfight? Can your character use a barstool as a weapon? A revolver? Fightin’ determines which weapons you can wield.00I dont do fights- ever- at all. I’m far to fragile! The GMs will put an appropriate defense only combat option in your character packet.

Inventin’Scientists are changing the world- one weird device after another. This skill enables characters to build inventions. The better your Inventin’ skill, the weirder and more powerful your devices can become. Some inventions use mechanical parts, some use biological parts. Inventors are resourceful and can make just about anything work.00I avoid technology at all costs.

22Novie Inventor. I can build and assemble blueprints marked “Skill level 2”
34Accomplished Inventor. I can build and assemble blueprints marked “Skill level 3”
46Expert Inventor. I can build and assemble blueprints marked “Skill level 4”
Takin’ a Beatin’Does your character know how to handle themselves in a fist or gunfight? Can your character use a barstool as a weapon? A revolver? Fightin’ will determine your ability to endure in a fight and your ability to throw a punch.00Please dont hit me. Please dont hit me. I’ll fall down. You have 2 hit point.
11You can take a punch- one, just one. Two is one too many. You have 4 hit points.
22You’ve been in a couple of bar fights and as a result, you’re a bit more durable. You have 6 hit points.
34You used to wrestle with your 7 older brothers. You’re well versed at getting beat up. You have 8 hit points.
46You could likely survive a single gunshot. You have 10 hit points.
Church Goin’Does your character have a religion? Are they influential in that religion? All good southerners pay lip service to a church. Even better southerners attend church at least one day a week to wash off all the sins of the week. This really wouldn’t be a skill if were completely unimportant. If you spend points in this category, you should also select one of the following religions that makes sense for your character: Native Mysticism, Freedman Mysticism, Catholicism, Protestant, Unholy Worship00Religion is for fools and sheep.

Sweet Talkin’Some folks can sell you an ice cube in the middle of a snowstorm. Others can persuade you that the nuttiest of ideas is a grand idea. Sweet talkin’ is also a skilled used by certain men and women to lure one another into romantic situations.00Oafish and clumsy in a conversation when you try to get your way.
11Basic conversational skills. You can lure willing folks into situations they want to be in.
22Average salesman. You can sell a broom to a person with a dirty floor.
34Charming and winsome mannerisms. People tend to agree with you and go along with your ideas.
46Master manipulator. You can sweet talk secrets out of government officials or cajole your way to safety in the event of a gunfight.
Governin’Cutting through red tape and being able to negotiate complicated stacks of paperwork and worse…lawyers…one needs to be acquainted with the government and weild some level of its authority.00Ain’t in charge of nothin’.
11Lowest level beaurecrat: Town clerk, Librarian, Bank Teller
22Mid level beaurecrat: Deputy lawman, Tax Collector, etc.
34High level local beaurecrat: Sherrif, Freedman’s Bureau, etc.
46Local and regional authority: Mayor, Senator, Federal Marshall. Note: These positions will have limited quanties available. Please check with the GMs to make sure the position you want to play is still available.
Schoolin’Smarts and book learnin’ can be valuable tools when you are faced with various puzzles and mysteries. Schoolin’ also comes in handy if you are seeking a job or acceptance by certain groups of people.00Don’t know how to read nothin’
