Under the Mask

Naples and the Role of Sicily

The island of Sicily sits just off the coast of Italy and the citizens of Sicily often have their own opinions of how they should be governed and heard among the monarchy. After a number of Sicilian complaints went unheard and unresponded to, the Sicilian people revolted and sold out their king to the King of Spain. Sicily wanted, in large, to be included in the Spanish exploration and colonization efforts. They wanted the opportunity to show off their seamanship skills and to prove their worth in international waters- oh and to get their own fair share of the wealth coming from the new world.

The King of Spain has been plotting marriages between the Germanic monarchies to help bolster and unify Spain against France. Between the new inclusion in exploration and positioning in international marriages, the unrest of the island of Sicily has been quelled- for now.
