In April of 1863 a massive earthquake rumbled from Mexico across the West and into Canada. The quake caused sharp ravines to open. Additionally, mines and caves both formed and collapsed. Lakes and rivers flooded their banks and many religious individuals were certain that the end times were beginning. Criminals made use of these catastrophic events by going into hiding or playing dead to reinvent themselves elsewhere. And, in the true spirit of all the North American countries- the business men were there to make some coin as quickly as they could pull it out of the ground.
In the years following the Great Quake, a plethora of a mysterious mineral has been discovered. This mysterious mineral has been dubbed ‘ghost rock’ by those daring enough to handle it. Ghost rock burns 100 times hotter and longer than coal. It emits a white smoke and howls like a ghostly phantasm- hence its name. In the last five years, ghost rock has become a critical component in inventions. Its traded across countries as currency.
The discovery of ghost rock has rapidly advanced technological progress in North America. By October of 1863, the same year the substance was discovered, it was already being used to power horseless carriages, weaponry, and even ship board artillery.
Despite its wide variety of uses in science and technology, there are still a number of individuals who are too superstitious to use the substance. There are as many theories as there are days in a year about the true fiendish nature of ghost rock. But, rest assured, ghost rock is here- and it’s not going anywhere.
