Allow me to ramble out yet another write up from the relay race of beer sampling that was Brew at the National Zoo in Washington, DC. Allagash Brewery from Maine came quite a long way to share two of their brews with the likes of us. They brought the White and they brought the Black. It was sweltering hot outside and I just didn’t have it in me to sample the Black. I did sample the white. Boy howdy! Tasty. I know I told at least three other people that it was one of my favorites from the entire event.
Anytime someone tells me a beer is going to be ‘spicy,’ I get all excited! I LOVE spicy. I love hot spicy- like a big plate of wings in habanero hot sauce. I also like flavor-filled spicy like Lebanese spiced meats in a pita or Indian curries. The thought of being able to drink in some spicy- bring it!
I tasted the light golden colored beer and almost immediately I caught the coriander in my tongue. There are a few brews that use coriander and yeah it works wonderfully well. The orange citrus flavor goes so well with coriander. That beer was screaming for a leg of pit roasted chicken. It needed a meal. Other aromas and flavors to play with all the flavors that were in the glass.
The Allagash White was another unfiltered wheat- and that seems to be my trend for this season. This beer is a MUST try.
